Obituary of William A. Weihe

Schenectady - William "Bill" A. Weihe, 80, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, September 5, 2018. He was born in Schenectady on September 1, 1938, son of the late Adolf Weihe and Elizabeth Vizvary Weihe. After graduating Nott Terrace High School, Bill joined the family dry cleaning business, Mercury Cleaners in Schenectady, and operated it for over two decades. Later, he worked for The Lawrence Group Insurance and United Auto Supply. From a young age, Bill enjoyed boating on Lake George, his beloved cars, listening to music, and his pet dogs. Not one to sit still, he loved watching high school sports, especially Shenendehowa basketball. He also enjoyed antique car shows, stock car and NASCAR racing, attending concerts, and visiting Cape Cod and Florida. He was affectionately called the "mayor" of Schenectady by family and friends due to his many acquaintances there. Most importantly, for 11 years, Bill was "Boop" to the lights of his life, his grandsons, Ryan William and Taylor Michael Cupp, who made him laugh and smile like nothing else. In addition to his grandsons, Bill is survived by his daughters, Christina Weihe (Matt Wilson), Tricia (Stephen) Cupp; sisters, Susan Weihe Las (Bill Dickinson) and Ruth Cramer; a nephew, Eric (Kristen) Las; and his former spouse, Hildy Weihe. Bill was a special "grandpa" to Brewster, his adored granddog, for 12 years. Per his wishes, the family will be gathering privately to celebrate Bill.
