William J. Danahy, Jr., 76, of Edgewood Ave., Rotterdam, formerly of Red Coach Dr., Glenville, died Monday, April 6, 2009, at Ellis Hospital after a short illness. Bill was born and educated in Schenectady. He was a custodian for the Schenectady Public School District, mostly working at Linton High School, retiring in 1993. Later he worked at Ellis Hospital as a parking lot attendant, retiring in 2000. He was a member of the Glenville Elks, Glenville Senior Citizens and the Fun-raiders. He was married to Christine Barney Danahy, she died in 1999. Bill is survived by a daughter, Heather (Donald) Blersch of Centreville, VA; a sister, Marcy Minkler of Olympia, WA; half sister, Catharine Heiner of Schenectady; two grandchildren, James and Kristen Blersch; and his companion, Joan Seeley. A graveside service will be held on Thursday afternoon, at 1 p.m., at Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Niskayuna. Memorial contributions may be made to City Mission, P.O. Box 760, Schenectady.
