I am so,so sorry to hear of Bill’s passing. He was truly a legend of the Schenectady Fire Department. He was fixing and maintaining our fire apparatus for as long as I can remember. His dedication and skills were unchallenged. He was part of our daily routine. He baled us out so many times, because of his knowledge and skills. As a member of our Schenectady Permanent Fireman’s Association, he will always be remembered for our family picnics. He worked tirelessly making them a success. I am personally proud to have worked and learned from Bill. I will surly miss him. My condolences go out to the entire Gage family. RIP Bill.

I had the pleasure of working with the Gage Family at the Schenectady Fire Department, as did my Dad and Uncle Bill.I always looked forward to coming to work when I was assigned with one of them. There was rarely a dull moment when it came to a practical joke or having a good laugh, but every one of the Gages had a sincere commitment to the job.
Bill was an excellent mechanic with a wealth of knowlege about fire apparatus. He took care of the apparatus like it was his own. Bill was "old school" and would let you know if he thought you were abusing his equipment, usually with a rag in his hand and a cigar in his mouth.
l will always remember the SPFA annual picnics when I was young. Bill and Everett, along with the rest of the family, always had everything under control. There was plenty of food, beer and clams to last the whole day. Bill always kept a watchful eye on the rotisserie and left no doubt who was in charge of the beef.
Bill will be sorely missed but his legacy will live on.
