Obituary of Custer R. Quick

Schenectady - Dr. Custer R. Quick, 85, of Saratoga Springs, passed away October 27, 2018, at home surrounded by his immediate family. He was born in Scranton, Pennsylvania to the late Custer and Ruth Quick, moving to upstate New York shortly thereafter. He was a 1951 graduate of Glens Falls High School. Custer then attended Albany State Teachers College, which later became the University at Albany, where he earned his Bachelor's degree Master's degree and Doctorate in Education. Custer spent the majority of his professional career working in the Schenectady Public School system as teacher, guidance counselor, psychologist and principal. Custer also held the position of Superintendent at Galway Central School, ending his career as the Director of Albany-Schoharie-Schenectady BOCES. In retirement, he worked part-time for the International Center for Leadership in Education. Prior to becoming an administrator, he spent his summers working at Camp Chingachgook, on beautiful Lake George. While an undergraduate student, he met the love of his life; he and Doris were married on June 30, 1956. Custer was a dedicated family man, spending as much time as possible with them at their summer home on Lake George. He had an adoration for the Adirondack Park, where he enjoyed skiing, sailing and hiking. Custer was also fond of traveling, taking trips all over the world upon retirement. Custer is survived by his wife of 62 years, Doris; his son Stephen (Colleen Wise); grandchildren William and Kathryn Colville, and Gavin Quick; as well as great-grandchildren Colton and Miles Colville. He was predeceased by his daughter Jennifer Colville. Calling hours will be held Tuesday, November 13, from 4-7 in the evening at the Daly Funeral Home, Inc., 242 McClellan St., Schenectady.
