Obituary of Carmela Murphy
Murphy, Carmela “Clara”
Schenectady – Murphy, Carmela, “Clara” age 106, recent resident of Kingsway Arms, Schenectady, passed peacefully into the Lords arms, Wednesday December 5, 2018.
Clara was born in Schenectady the daughter of the late Henry and Emely (Vassallo) Bottieri and was a lifelong area resident. Clara went on to work for the Army Depot, where she supervised the shipment of vehicles overseas. And then she graduated from Simmons Institute of Funeral Service in which she became the owner operator of Bottieri Funeral Home for several years. She graduated with honors from Albany Business College and was a legal secretary and also was president of the Secretary Association of Schenectady. She was an employee of City of Schenectady Corporation Counsel and then moved onto work as legal secretary for Grasso, Rodriguez and Grasso for 26 years before retiring at age 98. In 2008, Clara received a Prime Time Award for her work the law firm recognizing her extraordinary contribution to the legal profession into 90’s. She was a long time communicant of St. John the Evangelist Church and member of the Mt. Carmel Women’s Society.
Clara is survived by her son James Murphy and companion Shirley Rainville and son John Murphy and companion Kathy Rea, grandchildren; Jimmy, Jason(Melissa) Murphy, Dana (John)Crane and Victoria Murphy, great grandchildren; Sean and Ashley Murphy, Alexandra, Carlton and Derek Crane and Rowan Muprhy, her brother Enrico (Georgette) Bottieri and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband John Murphy who passed away in 1981 and their son William Robert Murphy, who died at age 11 who passed in 1958.
Calling hours will be Monday 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Daly Funeral Home, 242 McClellan St., Schenectady. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 am Tuesday at St. John the Evangelist, 806 Union St., Schenectady. Interment will be in St. Cyril’s Cemetery, Rotterdam.
