Obituary of John DeCarlo SR

John B. DeCarlo, Sr., 69, passed away peacefully on April 2, 2010, after a long illness. John was born and raised in Schenectady, NY, the son of the late Anthony A. DeCarlo and Lena Pietrosanto DeCarlo. He was a 1958 graduate of Nott Terrace High School in Schenectady, NY. John held various jobs in his lifetime but was best known as the owner of John DeCarlo Auto Service of Schenectady until 1985 when his great love of animals led him to a life of farming, and the founding of his farm, Battista Acres, in Dorloo, NY. He was a 30- year member of the Rotterdam Elks Lodge #2157. He is survived by his beloved Susan F. Wood; his children, John B. DeCarlo, Jr., Christine A. Smith, Dr. Maria R. DeCarlo, Dr. Anthony A. DeCarlo, Dorinda L. DeCarlo, Jovan M. Ormsby, Adine C. Jennings, and stepdaughter, Angela Marie Fabiani; ten grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his adoring sister, Anita L. Hickey. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, April 10, 2010, at 9 a.m. at St. Anthony's Church, 331 Seward Place, Schenectady, NY. Interment will follow the service at St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Steadwell Rd., Amsterdam, NY. Memorial contributions, in lieu of flowers, may be made in John's memory to Ayres Memorial Animal Shelter, 133 Hilltop Rd., Sprakers, NY 12166, due to his lifetime love of animals.
