Obituary of Ellen M. Spiewak

Schenectady – Ellen M. Spiewak (Margaret Mary Ellen Kelly) passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 1, 2019. Ellen was born in Schenectady, the daughter of the late William M. Kelly and Nora "Ellen" Kelly (McPadden) and was a lifelong resident. Ellen graduated from St. Columba's School. She worked at General Electric Company, was a "Fay Swafford" handbag representative, a lunchroom aide at Pleasant Valley Elementary School in the Mont Pleasant area of Schenectady and became a Regional Representative for "Avon" cosmetics. Ellen enjoyed spending time with her loving family, sewing, reading, cooking, traveling and watching movies. She was a member of the Duanesburg Senior Citizens, a longtime communicant of St. Luke's Catholic Church, as well as a lifetime member of the St. Luke's Rosary Society. She is survived by her loving children: Thomas M. Woods, Charles H. (Janet) Woods, III, Kathleen A. (John) Simkins, Cynthia I. (Harold) Simkins, Christopher S. (Kimberly) Spiewak, and Keith J. (Gretchen) Spiewak; 12 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. Ellen is predeceased by her loving husband Thomas Spiewak; sister, Kathleen E. Reid (Kelly); son, Daniel K. Spiewak; and grandson, Jason Woods. Calling hours will be Sunday, 5 to 7 p.m. at the Daly Funeral Home, 242 McClellan St., Schenectady. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 9:00 a.m. at St. Luke's Catholic Church, Schenectady. Interment services will be the Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Luke's Catholic Church Food Pantry, 1241 State St., Schenectady, NY 12304.
