Obituary of Barbara C. Fontaine
NISKAYUNA – Barbara Fontaine, 94, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 4, 2019 at St. Peter's Hospital surrounded by her loving family.
Born in New York City on January 24, 1924, Barbara was one of two children born to Edward and Barbara Stoffel. She grew up in the Bronx but moved to Missouri during WW II soon after marrying her beloved husband of 62 years, Pierre Fontaine, in 1944. After the war, she moved back to the Bronx, then Brooklyn for a short stay, before moving to Bayside, Queens in 1951, where she raised her family. In 1990 Barbara and Pierre moved to Niskayuna, New York.
Barbara was an Executive Assistant for a large insurance company in Manhattan early in her career and later in life supported her husband's career, NYS Court Reporter, by running the home based office.
Barbara will be missed and remembered by her friends and family for her loving nature, generosity, tenacity, progressive thinking and her ability to keep in touch with everyone she came to know throughout the years.
Barbara is survived by her two sons, Robert (Mercy) Fontaine of Latham, NY and Donald (Pamela)Fontaine of Delmar, NY, along with seven grandchildren, Laura Fontaine, Paul (Teresa) Fontaine, Patrick (Leigh Denning) Fontaine, Robert (Cynthia) Fontaine, Christophe Fontaine, Jennifer Lee and Jason (Rachel Savageau) Lee and seven great-grandchildren, Liam, Gavin, Annelise, Bradley, Joseph, Samantha and Barrett.
Barbara was predeceased by her parents, her brother Edward (Gunna) Stoffel and her husband Pierre Fontaine.
Funeral service Thursday, 12 noon at Daly Funeral Home, Inc., 242 McClellan St., Schenectady. Calling hours 10 to 12 at the funeral home. Interment, Memory Gardens Cemetery, Colonie.
