Obituary of Rita Alois

Rita J. Alois (Sabatini), age 90, passed away on Sunday, October 24, 2010, at Van Rensselaer Manor Nursing Home, Rensselaer, NY, with her daughter, Paulette, at her side. Rita was born on January 24, 1920 in Schenectady and was the daughter of the late Vincenzo and Caterina (Patriganani) Sabatini. Rita lived almost all of her life in Schenectady and attended public school there. She was a homemaker and mother, raising four children with an emphasis on education and teaching each one of them about this thing called life. She often recalled while being a young girl, sewing the covers on baseballs to earn extra money for her family. Rita worked at Sears in Colonie Center for many years and also worked with her companion, Gene, at his restaurant, "Budini's" in Colonie. She and Gene loved to travel and spent time in Italy and Spain. Rita is survived by her loving children, David G. Alois (Jacquie Embs) of Sacramento, CA, Paulette K. Johnson of Rensselaer, Pamela M. Caballero of Sacramento, CA, Peter L. Alois of Ballston Spa; brother, Jerry Sabatini (Marilyn) of Scotia; sister-in-law, Aminta Sabatini; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; three cousins; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by brothers, Gildo and Aldo Sabatini; sisters, Hilda Botteri and Matilda Sabatini. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the Daly Funeral Home, 242 McClellan Street, Schenectady, NY 12304 on Thursday, October 28 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. with funeral service immediately following with the Rev. Bruce Cornwell officiating. Interment will immediately follow the service at St. John's Cemetery, Schenectady, NY. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to a charity of their choice.
