Obituary of Roger Dinsmore

Schenectady - Roger Ernest Odett Dinsmore, passed away Sunday, July 29, 2012. Husband of the late Loretta Mae Ledwith Dinsmore, with whom he was married for 45 years. He was born February 3, 1920 in Gardner, MA to Leo Ernest Odett and Zula I. (Sweet) Odett. He lived in Schenectady for most of his life. He was a graduate of Mont Pleasant High School and won numerous medals in track high hurdles and high jump, having broken the NYS record for high jump. He worked for the General Electric Company in Schenectady for over 40 years, testing large motors and generators. During WWII these motors and generators were installed in many types of surface and sub surface naval warships. His hobbies included piloting small aircraft, having flown last at age 85. He belonged to the Musicians Union all his life, and played the stand up bass in orchestras and was in the George Donaldson's Quartet. He was licensed ham radio operator, loved fishing and camping. Mr. Dinsmore discovered Dinsmore Caverns in the well-known Knox Cave and will continue to be recognized for his knowledge and mapping through the Northeastern Caver Association where he has been the guest of honor at events. A 16 page article appeared on him in the Northeastern Caver magazine in 2011. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Loretta M. Dinsmore; and a son, Ronald R. Dinsmore. He is survived by a sister, Pamela Perkins; a son, Roland R. Dinsmore; a daughter, Bonnie J. Czaban and her husband, William A. Jaeger; daughter-in-law, Ginny Dinsmore; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Funeral service, Saturday morning 10 a.m. at the Daly Funeral Home, 242 McClellan St., Schenectady. Calling hours, Friday 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment, Memory Gardens Cemetery, Colonie. Memorial contributions may be made to the Animal Protecive Foundation, 53 Maple Ave., Scotia, NY 12302.
