Bertha (Betty) Dorr passed away into the loving arms of her Lord on Friday, March 12, 2010, at Baptist Health and Rehabilitation Center, after a long illness. She was born July 30, 1918, in Philadelphia, PA, the daughter of Dr. Daniel Austin and Viola Geckeler Lebo. Betty married Rev. Dr. Melvin H. Dorr, Jr. on May 17, 1939. She was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church in Schenectady. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She loved her home and her church. Her church activities included Sunday school teacher, choir, youth leader, mission circle and trustee of the Capital Area Baptist Association. Betty graduated from a Quaker School and Germantown High School in Philadelphia. She attended Peirce Business School and was a secretary for Hornblower and Weeks in Philadelphia. Betty was predeceased by her husband of 70 years, Rev. Dr. Melvin H. Dorr, Jr., who died October 25, 2009; her parents; and two sisters, Martha Deksnis and Irma Fairman. She is survived by her two sons, Melvin H. Dorr III or Niskayuna and William (Susanne) Dorr of Glenville; two grandchildren, Mark H. (Amanda) Dorr of Niskayuna and Rachel A. Dorr of Niskayuna. She is also survived by great-granddaughter, Lauryn R. Dorr of Niskayuna; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be Wednesday morning at 11 a.m. from the Daly Funeral Home, 242 McClellan Street, Schenectady. Interment will be held in Park View Cemetery, Schenectady. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the Daly Funeral Home on Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. If desired, memorial contributions may be made in her name to Baptist Health Foundation, 297 N. Ballston Avenue, Scotia, NY 12302 or to Springbrook (formerly Upstate Home for Children), 2705 State Hwy 28, Oneonta, New York 13820-3153. The Dorr family wishes to thank the staff and caregivers at Baptist Health and Rehabilitation for providing such wonderful care and comfort to Betty during her stay.
