I was one of Dr. Katz's geophysics students at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. I remember how he could fill the chalkboard up with the most complex equations all from memory while we were scrambling to write them down in our notes. He inspired me to follow a career in geophysics, working in oil exploration in Asia, Africa and the Middle East. I will certainly always remember the influence he had on me and his other students.
