Obituary of Leo Jurczynski
Please share a memory of Leo to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Schenectady - Leo T. Jurczynski, 71, of Schenectady, entered eternal peace with Our Lord after succumbing to the Corona virus on January 18, 2021.
Leo was born October 27, 1949 to Marguerite T. and Joseph L. Jurczynski and graduated from Linton High School. He resided with his loving parents and brother, Tom until 1991. Since that time, he has received the kind and attentive care while at residences supervised by the Center for Disability Services (CFDS). The staff at the Center, especially those at the Shirl Lane residence, were especially loved by Leo for the creation of a family environment and heart-felt care over the many years until his passing. Leo worked much of his adult life at the Center's sheltered workshop in Albany, with guidance from a caring staff, therapists and social workers. The family sends special thanks to the Center for Disability Services and its entire staff for the many years of care provided to Leo.
Leo was not one to let his physical disabilities deter him with how he lived his life. He was family oriented and provided much positive challenge and humor to his family. His keen intellect and strategic mind made him a worthy opponent in both chess and checkers which he learned to play from his Grandpa Jurczynski. He particularly loved going to baseball games and watching baseball with his Dad and brothers. His humor was well known and obvious to anyone with whom he came in contact. He loved to be at gatherings to enjoy family, friends and food. He especially enjoyed his Mom's cooking and pizza nights.
But most all, Leo was a true hero and always led by example. Never one to immerse himself in self-pity, he took on every challenge before him and was a total and complete winner. His legacy will be carried on by all that knew and loved him.
Leo was a parishioner of St. Luke's Roman Catholic church and loved to attend Mass with his immediate family and many of his house staff.
Leo was predeceased by his parents and his older brother, Joseph G. He is survived by his siblings, Gerard E. (Audrey) of Guilderland, Anna Jurczynski-Martin (Marc) of Greensboro, NC, Mary Jurczynski LaRonde (William) of Westminster, CO, Albert P. (Maria) of Schenectady, David J. (Donna) of Guilderland, Thomas J. of Albany and Sandra Jurczynski, (widow of Joseph G.) of Princetown, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Due to the pandemic, there are no calling hours and a private Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Luke's Church, Schenectady, followed by internment in the Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Niskayuna.
