Schenectady – Carol M. Zabielski, 58, passed away suddenly on Saturday February 20, 2021 at Ellis Hospital. She died of natural causes. Carol was born in Schenectady, NY in 1962 the daughter of Catherine (Cavanaugh) and the late Edward Zabielski. A 1980 graduate of Linton High School, she received her B. A. degree in English from SUNY Albany in 1985 and then a Master's degree in Library Science in 1988. She worked at the library at SUNY Albany and then at SUNY OCLC, also for Schenectady County, culminating in a work position at the NYS Department of Education. Carol enjoyed volunteering at a catechist and sharing her profound interest in theology, history and learning. She also had a devotion to Saint Padre Pio whose spiritual assistance helped her grow in her faith. She liked travelling to the Padre Pio shrine near Barto, Pennsylvania and the one in Cromwell, Connecticut and going to the Shrine of Divine Mercy in Stockbridge, Massachusetts as well as visiting churches and historic sites. She enjoyed taking trips to Keane Valley n the Adirondacks and to Maine with her sister Karen and friends. And over the past few years she enjoyed swimming at Bolton Landing beach and visiting Lake George. Carol lived in Pennsylvania for four years (2009 – 2013) and enjoyed her time there before moving back here and residing in Glenville. Carol is survived by her mother Catherine Zabielski, her brother Jeffrey (Debbie) Zabiekski her twin sister Karen Zabielski, Aunt Stella (the late Dr. William)Oldendorf, nephew Gregory (Maggie) Zabielski, nieces Juliana and Carlee Zabielski and her cousins Eric, Dr. Mark (Elizabeth) and William Oldendorf, Robert Jr., Douglas and Kenneth Peek. Carol was predeceased by her father Edward M. Zabielski, her paternal grandparents Walter and Julia Zabielski and maternal grandparents Joseph and Teresa Cavanaugh, her uncles, Dr. Chester V. Zabielski and James Cavanaugh and her aunt, Mary C. Peek and her husband, Robert Sr. Calling hours will be held Thursday 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Daly Funeral Home, 242 McClellan St., Schenectady. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday 10:00 am at Church of the Immaculate Conception, 400 Saratoga Rd., Scotia. Interment will be in Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Niskayuna. Due to COVID-19 concerns, there will be no gathering after the funeral services.
