Obituary of Ruth A. Tolge

Schenectady, NY – Ruth A. Tolge, 85, passed away peacefully Wednesday April 28, 2021. Ruth was born in Fulton, NY the daughter of the late Florence and John Mills. The family moved to Schenectady when Ruth was a teenager, where she graduated from St. Joseph's Academy and earned her Associates degree from Schenectady County Community College. She was a long time communicant of St. Kateri Tekakwitha and a member of the Schenectady Medical Auxiliary. Ruth is known for her welcoming smiles, hearty hugs, witty humor, generous spirit, and love of dogs, friends and family. Ruth's favorite past times were activities spent in the Adirondacks such as waterskiing, hiking, canoeing, downhill snow skiing and spending time with family at the Sacandaga Lake house. Ruth is survived by her "bestest" husband of nearly 63 years Dr. Bruno Tolge, their children: Geoffrey Tolge (Dr. Halina Zyczynsk), Dr. Celina Tolge, David Tolge (Margaret) and Maryl Darko (Daniel Darko, PhD.), eight grandchildren: Emily Tolge, Madeline Tolge, David Tolge, Julia Gorham, Jenna Gorham, Lila Tolge, Esther Darko and Deborah Darko and nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Ruth was predeceased by her sister Mary Stewart, son-in-law Jay Gorham and daughter-in-law Robin Tolge. Calling hours will be held 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Friday May 7, 2021 at Daly Funeral Home, 242 McClellan St., Schenectady. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, May 8, 2021 at 10:00 am at St. Kateri Tekakwitha Church, 1803 Union St., Schenectady. Entombment will be in Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery Mausoleum, Niskayuna. Memorial contributions may be made in Ruth's name to St. Kateri Tekakwitha Church or the Schenectady City Mission.
