Sara Winfrey Wells, 93 of Schenectady, New York passed on Thursday, April 29 after a lengthy illness. She was born in Macon, Georgia to the late Odell Winfrey, Sr. and Sarah Brown Winfrey. She was preceded in death by her four siblings. She was reared in Athens, Georgia and later relocated to Atlanta, Georgia where she attended Morris Brown College. She was united in marriage to the late Dr. John Wells. They relocated to Schenectady, where she taught elementary school in the Schenectady City School District, until her retirement. She leaves to cherish her memories, a son, Keith Wells of Schenectady, New York; a daughter, Yvonne (Victor) Gaither of Haymarket, Virginia; a grandson, Caleb Gaither; a granddaughter, Trinity Gaither; cousins, Diane Smith and Anna L. Winfrey; a host of other cousins, friends, former students and extended family member Dr. Rose Wright. Services will be held at Daly Funeral Home, 242 McClellan Street in Schenectady, New York. A viewing will be held on Saturday, May 8 from 10am – noon. Services will begin at noon. Interment will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery, 83 Watervliet Shaker Rd, Albany, New York, immediately following the service. Covid protocol will be followed.
