Schenectady -Alan Courtney Taylor, 87, of Schenectady, passed away peacefully on May 9th, 2021 at the Schenectady Center.
Alan was born in Schenectady to William and Katherine Taylor on August 1, 1933, where he attended Mount Pleasant High School, class of 1951. He was drafted by and then scouted for the Boston Red Sox after high school, before joining the Army and fighting in the Korean War. He worked for several banks during his professional career before ultimately managing Central Credit Bureau in Schenectady for over 20 years.
He was an avid sports fan and widely recognized for his excellence in officiating high school sports, namely football, boys/girls basketball and baseball/softball. He was recognized for his longevity as a football referee, completing over 50 seasons during his career.
Alan is preceded in death by both his parents, as well as his brother William. Alan is survived by his two children, Kevin Taylor and Colleen (Brown), as well as 5 grandchildren, Jack, Drew and Max Taylor and Jordan and Katie Brown.
Calling hours will be at Daly Funeral Home in Schenectady on Friday, May 14th from 11 AM to 12 Noon, with a brief funeral service to follow, starting at 12:00 Noon with Reverend Richard Frank presiding. Burial will follow at Prospect Hill Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Daly Funeral Home.
