Obituary of Mary L. Hubel
Please share a memory of Mary to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with sadness that we announce that Mary L. Hubel died peacefully on July 1, 2021 at Glendale Nursing Home. Mary was born in Schenectady on December 15, 1929, the oldest daughter of Lucy and Charles Formosa. After her father died during her teenage years, her mother married Anthony DeParis, who was a great support for the family. Mary graduated from St. Joseph's High School and then continued her education at Mildred Elly, becoming a secretary at G.E. before having her children. When they were older, she resumed her secretarial career at Glendale Nursing Home, later becoming the Executive Secretary for the Schenectady County Commissioner.
Mary married the love of her life, Richard (Jerry) Hubel on February 2, 1952, who passed away in 2011. Mary was also predeceased by her parents, her brother Joseph Formosa, his wife Patricia, and her sister Therese Dube, as well as her niece Mary Houlihan. She is survived by her sister Celia Loeffler, and her brothers-in-law John Loeffler and David Dube. She is also survived by her children; Diane (Michael) Farella, Paul (Erin) Hubel, Richard (Diane) Hubel, and Teresa (Mark) D'Alessandro. Mary felt blessed with her eight grandchildren; Joseph (Kate) Farella, Paul (Samantha) Farella, Michael Jr. (Alyssa) Farella, Sarah (Gary) March, Daniel Hubel, Katherine (Ross) Flack, Christopher D'Alessandro, and Elisa (Nick) Forysinski. Mary loved her children and grandchildren very much and they have wonderful memories of their times together, including trips to the lake, eating her famous maroonaforn, playing games, and reading together. She took special joy in seeing her grandchildren have children of their own as she became a Great-Grandmother ten times over. Mary is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. She cherished her close friends and her family.
Mary was a quiet and gentle soul, who nonetheless held strong beliefs about what was important in life. Her faith was most important to her and was a great support and consolation for her during these last few challenging years. Reading and watching classic movies also brightened her life. Her family would like to thank the staff at Glendale who took special care of her.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 7 at St. Luke's Church, Schenectady, at 11:00, where Mary was a long-time parishioner, lector, and Eucharistic Minister before her health began failing. Burial will follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery.
Friends and family wishing to leave a message of condolence can visit the website at Daly's Funeral Home, Inc. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Luke's Catholic Church in Mary's name.
