Please share a memory of Kathleen to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Kathleen M. Smith of Glenville, NY, (formerly of Niskayuna, NY) entered into eternal rest on Thursday October 28, 2021. Kathy was born on April 18, 1941 in your Honesdale, PA and was the daughter of the late Leonard and Alice Moffit. After graduating from Honesdale High School, Kathy met her future husband Gaylord Smith and their journey began. Kathy and Gaylord welcomed their first son, Patrick while living in Brooklyn, NY. They then settled in Wellsville, NY where they welcomed their first daughter, Amy and then a second daughter, Susan. After living in Wellsville for several years, the next part of their journey brought them to Niskayuna, NY where they welcomed another son, Andrew and then finally their last child, a daughter, Meghan. Niskayuna was home for many years and was the place where Kathy settled her roots. Kathy loved her neighbors and friends and they in turn loved her quick wit and feisty spirit. She loved cooking, watching baseball and football, gardening, family pets, birds, and political discussions, but most of all she enjoyed raising her children. Kathy’s passion was flower gardening. She developed her own gardening business and brought color and beauty to many gardens around Niskayuna and Schenectady. Kathy loved spending the holidays with her family and especially loved Christmas. No one could decorate a Christmas tree like Kathy! A few years after the death of her husband, Kathy moved to Dagsboro, DE to enjoy warmer temperatures, the beach and to be close to relatives. During this time, Kathy was blessed with two grandchildren, Paige and Bryce who brought a twinkle to her eye. After a nine year stay in DE, she decided to move back to this area and settled in Glenville, NY. Kathy is survived by her daughters: Amy (Dave) Underwood of Glenville, NY, Susan (Steve) Martin of Chazy Lake, NY, Meghan (Mike) Debo of Pittsburgh, PA and a son: Andrew Smith of Lake Luzerne, NY and adored grandchildren Paige Smith and Bryce Debo. Kathy has now joined her husband Gaylord Smith, her son Patrick Smith and many other relatives. Heaven has gained a feisty angel! Visitation and a funeral mass will be held at St. John’s the Evangelist Church in Schenectady on Tuesday, November 2nd. Visitation will be from 10am-12pm and the mass will immediately follow. Interment will be at Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery in Niskayuna. If you choose to send flowers, please send them to the church.
