Obituary of William Burdette

Please share a memory of William to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
William P. Burdette, 84, of Schenectady, NY passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 4, 2022 at Capstone Center for Rehab and Nursing in Amsterdam after a long illness subsequent to a stroke. William attended Saint Mary's (Polish) Catholic School in Schenectady and was an altar boy. He served in the Navy on the USS Zellers in the "torpedo gang" of which he spoke fondly. He worked for the NYS Dept of Transportation for 28 years until retirement in April of 1995. His children fondly remember him for the many memories of having fun at the lake, swimming, playing volleyball, horseshoes and always being up for doing something fun. He was a quick wit and found humor in everything. He always kept us laughing. His boundless energy, positive attitude and love of life are sorely missed. He loved watching football and WWE wrestling and passed that on to his kids. William had a talent for voice impersonations, notably a very funny Tweety Bird impression. After retiring he enjoyed visiting old friends, neighbors and relatives. He enjoyed walking everywhere and going shopping to buy someone a gift. He especially loved visiting his young granddaughter in Virginia. He is survived by his wife of 60 years. He leaves behind 3 children and 2 grandchildren; daughter, Sherri Burdette, granddaughter, Shannon Chong and grandson, Jay Ratajczak. He is predeceased by children: Sandra Ratajczak and James Burdette. He was the son of the late Helen (Brzezinski) Burdette. Cremation was performed at Park View Crematorium in Schenectady and he will be interred at Schenectady Memorial Park in Schenectady. Written by Sherri Burdette, to honor my father and best friend forever.
