Schenectady - Alfred V. Farone, 97, of Sumner Avenue, passed away peacefully at Ellis Hospital on Monday, November 26, 2012. A lifelong city resident, Mr. Farone was predeceased by his wife, Charlotte, in October 1993. Survivors include his two sons, Richard A. Farone of The Villages, Florida; Robert (Elaine) Farone of Kodak, Tennessee; two daughters, Arlene (Aytac) Burul of Dublin, California and Sharon (Carl) Gilbert of Niskayuna and one brother, Joseph Farone of Burnt Hills. He also had eight grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. Mr. Farone entered the Army during World War II, June 1943 to November 1945, serving in central Europe. Mr. Farone later was employed by American Locomotive Company whre he supervised the tool room machine shop. He later went to work at Schenectady County Community College as head maintenance man. In February of 1975, he served a two-year term as president of Civil Service Employees Association (CSEA), Schenectady County Chapter. Many thanks from the family to the following special people: Tony and Jessica Farone, grandpa Fred's grandson and wife, who cared for grandpa a great deal of the time; Anita and Bebe as well as the staff at Rely Health Care, who had a great part in grandpa's care; and Toni Boughton, who also cared for grandpa while at home. The family appreciates all that they did to keep grandpa comfortable. Calling hours are Thursday, November 29, 2012, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Daly Funeral Home, 242 McClellan Street, Schenectady, New York. Funeral services will be held Friday morning, November 30, at 9:00 a.m. at St Kateri Tekakwitha Parish - Union St. (formally St. Helen's Church) where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Burial will be following the mass, at St. John's Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to: Community Hospice of Schenectady, 1411 Union Street, Schenectady, New York 12308.
