Sylvia Marie Lange (née Humphrey), 86, passed away suddenly on July 30, 2022. A lifelong resident of Schenectady County, Sylvia graduated from St. Joseph's Academy in 1954 and Russell Sage College in 1958. She taught in the Schenectady City School District for over thirty years in various capacities, including reading specialist and elementary school teacher. Sylvia was always active in her community and supported a variety of causes: Girls, Inc., the Fresh Air Program, Schenectady Day Nursery and Lobster Fest, the Sunnyview Auxiliary and their fashion show, the Proctor's Guild and their annual meet-and-greet with Santa and Mrs. Claus and the Schenectady Symphony League, to name but a few. She was a founding member of the Cat's Meow Red Hat Society and an avid reader and member of book clubs. Sylvia also enjoyed tennis and curling, volunteered at the 1980 Olympics, and opened her home to exchange students from around the world. Sylvia was a great friend who brought people together and she will be missed. Sylvia was predeceased by her husband of sixty years, Frederick "Fritz," the former proprietor of Lange's Pharmacy. She is survived by her four children and their spouses: Betsy (Jeff) Johnson, Danny (Angel) Lange, David (Jean) Lange, and Maggi (Paul) Padua. She is also survived by ten grandchildren.
