Obituary of Catherine Zabielski

Catherine M. Zabielski, 95, passed away on Sunday October 2, 2022 at the Glendale Nursing Home. Catherine was born in Albany, New York in 1927, the daughter of the late Joseph and Teresa (Frank) Cavanaugh. She was a 1945 graduate of St. Columba High School. During her high school years, Catherine worked at Kresge's as a clerk. Upon graduating, she was employed at General Electric in Schenectady for fourteen years serving in various departments as a secretary. During that time she took courses at Spencer Business Institute graduating in 1947. On May 20, 1950 she married Edward M. Zabielski at St. Luke's Church in Schenectady. They had three children. They spent many years at their summer camp in Lake George enjoying skiing in the Adirondacks and boating on the lake. She also enjoyed many summers in Pittsfield, Mass. visiting her Aunt Loretta Troy and her cousins. Catherine was a member of the Red Hat Club and had a wonderful time participating in their many activities. Catherine is survived by her son Jeffrey (Debbie) Zabielski, her daughter Karen Zabielski, her grandchildren: Gregory (Maggie) Zabielski, Juliana and Carlee Zabielski, seven great-grandchildren, nephews Eric Oldendorf and Dr. Mark (Elizabeth) Oldendorf, Robert Jr. and Douglas and Kenneth Peek and Richard (Ashley) Rauhauser, Rebecca (Dan) Secor. Catherine was predeceased by her husband Edward who passed away in 2008 after fifty-eight years of marriage, her daughter Carol Zabielski, her sister Mary C. Peek and Mary's husband Robert Sr., her brother James N Cavanaugh, her brother-in-law Chester Zabielski, her sister-in-law Stella Oldendorf and Stella's husband Dr. William Oldendorf, Sr. and her nephew William Oldendorf, Jr. The family would like to acknowledge the excellent care that Catherine received at Ellis Hospital and the outstanding compassionate care while at Glendale Nursing Home. Calling hours will be Wednesday 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Daly Funeral Home, 242 McClellan St., Schenectady. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday 9:00 a.m. at St. Luke's Catholic Church, 1241 State St., Schenectady. Interment will immediately follow at Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Niskayuna.
