Obituary of Alexander James Massey

Our beloved son, Alec Massey, passed away unexpectedly at home on Tuesday, October 11, 2022. Born January 12, 1999, Alec was a 2018 graduate of Scotia – Glenville High School and was employed at Mountain Ridge Adventures as a zombie adventure leader. Alec was excited about an upcoming trip to Costa Rica in February to be trained to teach English as a foreign language. He was looking forward to making a change and experiencing a new culture. He began playing the guitar in grade school, taught by a next-door neighbor, and soon progressed beyond the instructor's skill level. Alec had a knack and a love for music and would often mimic his favorite artists and sometimes write his own songs. He produced TikTok videos and was excited about the results he was getting with many followers. He was a free spirit, had a great sense of humor, and loved making other people laugh. One of his future dreams was to be a stand-up comedian. Alec had an engaging personality and a smile that would light up the room. He was a kind, sweet spirit that would take care of those around him. One of his friends shared a story of Alec making her stop in the middle of the road to help a turtle across, holding up traffic until it was safely out of the way. Alec was a beautiful young man who struggled for many years with addiction and mental health issues. He was working hard to battle those demons before his life ended far too early. Alec is survived by his loving parents, Karen and Michael Massey, a brother Gabriel and sister Emily, maternal grandparents, Nancy and Robert Mable, and several aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. He is predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Frank and Marlene Massey. Services for Alec will be held on Wednesday, October 19, 2022 at Maranatha Ministries, 522 Bradt Street, Schenectady, with calling hours from 1 to 3 and a service immediately following.
