Watervliet - Margit (Vogel) Laforest, 83, passed peacefully in prayer with her family by her side, on February 16, 2023, at Albany Medical Center. She was born June 2, 1939, in Berlin Germany, the daughter of Wilhelm Friedrich Erwin Vogel and Gertrud (Hallas) Vogel.
Margit came to the United States and became a Naturalized Citizen on February 15, 1967. She worked as a social worker for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Albany for many years.
Full of spirit and immense love for her family, Margit enjoyed travel and had a great love of cooking and enjoyed delicious foods, especially hamburgers and ice cream. Her appreciation and kindness frequently resulted in a gracious offer of "a cone". Her inquisitive nature and passion for socializing inspired conversations amongst all she met, often growing into lifelong friendships.
Margit is survived by her loving children, Carina (Kaczmarek) Krischlunas-Ball and her life partner, William Vittorio, Christina (Lavenia) Pieck, and Anthony Lavenia and his life partner, Gina Gillman; her grandchildren Jonathan Pieck, Daniel Krischlunas, Kendra Lavenia, Mark Lavenia and Ciara Pieck, and her great granddaughters Izabella DeJesus, Joèlisse DeJesus and her loving niece, Carola Oeck of Frankfurt, Germany. Margit's passage will not only be felt by her family and local friends, but throughout the United States and across the world.
In lieu of a memorial service, the family requests anyone who wishes to remember Margit, may make a gift in her memory to the Leukemia Research Foundation.
Margit wird für immer in unseren Herzen.
