Please share a memory of Georgia to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Niskayuna - Georgia Diamond Caprino, formerly of Schenectady, New York, age 98, passed away peacefully at Tall Oaks Assisted Living in Reston, Virginia, on March 12, 2023. She was 98 years old. Georgia was predeceased by her beloved husband of 59 years, Joseph Caprino, and her siblings, Soula and Theodore Diamond. Georgia is survived by her two daughters, Barbara Plante (Stephen Plante), of Warrenton, VA and Kathy Caprino, of Stamford, Connecticut. Georgia has four loving grandchildren - Kelsey Plante, Newport News, VA, Ava Plante, Warrenton, VA, Julia Lipner, Portland, ME, and Elliot Lipner, New York City, NY. Georgia was born to Dennis and Urania Diamond on September 15, 1924 in Pittsfield, Massachusetts and graduated from Pittsfield High School in 1942. Elected Vice President of her class, Georgia enjoyed sports at the Pittsfield Girls Club, and playing on the school basketball and badminton teams in high school. She began her career as a stenographer in the production department at the General Electric of Pittsfield, MA, in the Ordinance Operation during WWII. She continued secretarial work for engineering at GE for the next decade. She met Joseph, who also worked at General Electric in Pittsfield, at a wedding of a friend, and they were married January 17, 1954. When Joseph’s General Electric role was transferred to Waterford, NY, Georgia and Joe moved to Schenectady with their two young children. Georgia’s hobbies included gardening, reading and swimming at the Edison Club in Rexford, NY where the family enjoyed many hours of special time together. She also served as a volunteer for the Greek Orthodox Ladies Philoptochos Society. Georgia was known for her no nonsense, can-do attitude and her keen wit, along with her great passion for reading works of literature from around the world. The family would like to thank the wonderful, caring staff at Tall Oaks Assisted Living in Reston, VA who supported Georgia tirelessly and lovingly these past nine years, especially during the last several months of her life. We are forever in their debt. And we thank the hospice care team – Vitas Healthcare – for their support of our mom in her last weeks. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations in Georgia’s name to the loving hospice care home in which Joseph Caprino was lovingly cared for in his last three months of life – the Joan Nicole Prince Home at 22 Glenview Drive, Scotia, NY 12302.
