Obituary of Mark S. Lichtenwalter
Please share a memory of Mark to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Glenville, NY
Mark Lichtenwalter, "Glen's brother," passed away at his group-home on Tuesday, April 11th. He
had just finished one of his favorite meals (lasagna) and was looking forward to his soda.
Mark was predeceased by his mother Loretta Lichtenwalter (nee Sloan) and father, Earl Lichtenwalter and survived by his brother, Glen Lichtenwalter and Glen's partner, Lola Sullivan. Survivors include his extended family and many friends, particularly members of the Bourdeau and Sullivan/Edwards families. The staff at Princetown and Mark's group-home are owed a huge debt of gratitude for all they did for Mark.
Mark enjoyed a successful career at Pine Ridge Industries until he was fired for stealing candy from "the fat secretary's desk" and knocking over her soda. Mark's poor production numbers and socialist view of life did not help his cause, and he was forced into retirement at Princetown day center. At Princetown, Mark blossomed and found his groove. He excelled at coloring, dancing, visiting the girls in all the rooms, and daily reconnaissance missions in search of snacks. Mark loved a party, especially if it was his, and viewed every day as a combination of Christmas and his birthday. He loved his house manager, George, as a brother, and proposed marriage to each female staff member repeatedly, unfazed by their knowledge of competing offers he made (sometimes, the same day) to other female staff. Mark loved his housemates, sharing 30 plus years of group-home living with several. Mark enjoyed traveling the east coast like a true jetsetter, visiting friends and family in Washington, DC and Florida on a regular basis. He was an emissary of friendliness, kindness and fun and will be missed by many but never forgotten. (Note, all quotes are Mark's.)
