Obituary of Evalyn I Krone
Please share a memory of Evalyn to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Schenectady - Evalyn Isberg Krone passed peacefully at home on Friday, May 12 surrounded by loving family. She was the beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother of many. She is survived by daughters Michelle Kwiatkowski (Andrew), Maureen Gough (Robert) Marjorie Smith (Rick) and son
Michael, 9 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. She is predeceased by mother Edna, father Clarence, brothers Howard and Leonard, son-in-law Rick Smith (2013) and grandson Andrew Kwiatkowski (2020).
Born and raised in Fairbanks, Alaska she married Walter Krone in 1945 and then lived in Gary, Indiana followed by New Orleans, Louisiana where Walter earned his dental degree. They eventually settled in West Monroe, LA. It was during these years that she had her four children who were the joy of her life.
In 1963 she and her children moved to Scotia, New York. She lived the remainder of her life in the Schenectady area.
Evalyn worked at SUNY Albany in the Personnel Department and took early retirement after 20 years. While there she joined the Investment club and maintained that interest throughout her life.
Evalyn was very active in her Catholic faith including St Pascal’s in West Monroe, St Joseph’s in Scotia, Sacred Heart/St Columba then St Joseph's in Schenectady. She was a volunteer and lay reader and was honored by the church for her dedication.
In her golden years she found love again and was a blushing bride in 1994 with Lewis Blaha extending her loving family. She loved and then cared for Lew until his death in 2005.
Evalyn was always active and adventurous. She was the Editor of her yearbook, dressed as boy so that she could tag along with her uncle on the train and earned her pilot’s license. She was an avid reader and passed the love of books on to her children. She loved family trips, camping, family/friend game nights and cards, especially bridge and pinochle.
She was an annual passholder to SPAC for the orchestra and the ballet and brought her children and grandchildren.
Service will be held Thursday 2:00 pm at the Daly Funeral Home, 242 McClellen St. Schenectady. Calling hours will precede the service from 1:00 – 2:00 pm followed by a Catholic service. Internment will be private.
