Obituary of Sandra Jean Roberts

Roberts, Sandra Jean “Sandy” (Smith), age 85, of Rotterdam, passed away peacefully on May 21, at home surrounded by her loving family. Sandy was Born April 5th, 1938 in Amsterdam, NY to the late Fred and Helen Smith. Graduating from Galway Central School in 1955, she went on to earn a degree from Spencer Business School. She had a fulfilling career at the Boys and Girls Club of Schenectady, a place where she met life long friends Billy Allen and Louise DeFabbio. Following retirement, Sandy went on to work at one of her favorite places, the Saratoga Flat Track until 2012. Sandy was active in her community, having volunteered at the Baptist Retirement Center and Ellis Hospital throughout her life. She was a dedicated member of the Cobblestone Reformed Church in Rotterdam for 40 years, where she had many friends, including her good friend Heidi Slurff. She will be remembered as a caring and loving, albeit sassy, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and a friend to many. She loved her pomeranians, the race track, the ocean, the casino and her cat, Baby. Sandy was truly one of a kind, a force who left an impression on all that knew and loved her. She will be greatly missed. Sandy is predeceased by her husband, George Roberts, her sister, Helen Miller and her daughter, Kimberly Ann Draus. She is survived by her loving daughter Dawn Guay (James), granddaughters Alanna Guay (John Kolach), Olivia Wade (Brandon) and Zoe Guay (Cody Stark). Great-grandmother to Rebel and Harley Wade. Cherised Aunt to Kristine Tommasone (John), Bill Miller (Corinne), Sandy Daunais (John), Wendy Brooks (Tom) and Susan Young (Brian). Sister to Gayle Henry. Beloved great-aunt. A celebration of Sandy’s life will be held at 10 A.M. on May 31, 2023 at Cobblestone Reformed Church, address 118 Putnam Road, Schenectady 12306. Those wishing to remember Sandy in a special way may make a contribution in her memory to the Grapeville Christian School, 2416 County Route 26, Climax, NY 12042. Sandy’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the nurses, aides and volunteers at The Community Hospice for all the professional and personal care given to her.
