Obituary of Alphonse John Rotter, Jr.

Schenectady, NY-Alphonse (Al) Rotter, Jr., 88 passed away Wednesday July 19, 2023 after a long illness. Al was born in Schenectady, NY the son of the later Alphonse & Florence Rotter, Sr. Al is survived by his wife of 64 years, Margaret (Peggy) Rotter. He is also survived by his four children, Beth (Ed) Schultz, Marie (Jim) Pieniazek, Ann (Gerard) Budniewski, and Dan (Laura) Rotter. Al is survived by 12 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, his sisters Pat (Joe) Wnuk, Georgette Rotter, his brother Stanley Rotter, and several nieces & nephews. He is preceded in death by his sister Paula Merriman and his brother Bob Rotter. Al was a tissue and organ donor. Al served in the US Army between 1957 – 1959. He worked for several construction companies and had a long career as a finish carpenter. Al loved playing baseball and played during his service with the US Army as well as several local softball and baseball teams. He loved country line dancing with Peggy and their friends. In his spare time, he loved growing vegetables and flowers in his garden, smoking ribs for his family, and loved finding a good bargain during his many shopping trips. Al loved bowling and spent several years bowling on local bowling leagues. In retirement he spent many hours painting and loved giving his beautiful paintings to his family. Calling hours will be Monday, July 24, 2023 at Daly Funeral Home, 242 McClellan Street, Schenectady, NY between 4pm – 7pm with a service will be held at 7:00 pm. Burial will be private at a later date in Saratoga National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Wounded Warriors Project.
