Please share a memory of Lewis to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Lew was born on May 10, 1952 in Schenectady, NY, a son of the late Alma (Cassella) DeSalvatore and John DeSalvatore. Lew graduated from Linton High School in 1970 where he was very active in sports and school activities. He played Freshman and JV Baseball, Varsity Football, held class offices of President and Vice President and was also President of Key Club. He completed his four year college degree at Siena College in 1974 and graduated with a Bachelor's of Business Administration degree with a major in accounting. He started his distinguished 35 year professional career with the NYS Teachers Retirement System as a Budget Specialist. In 1976 he accepted a position with the NYS Environmental Facilities Corporation as an Assistant Accountant. It was at EFC that he became very interested in the sale and issuance of Municipal Bonds. Over the nearly ten years at EFC he worked his way up from the position of Assistant Accountant to Director of Finance. In 1986 Lew accepted the position of Assistant Manager of Financings and Special Programs at the Dormitory Authority of the State of New York. This position expanded his exposure to Municipal Finance and included the responsibility of developing and implementing the accounting, investment and administrative requirements for the Special Programs Unit. He was directly involved in DASNY's first issuances of Variable Rate Bonds, Taxable and Tax Exempt Commercial Paper, and Bonds issued for Student Loans. At the time of his retirement, he held the position of Assistant Director of Financing and Treasurer. He worked with some of the country's best Municipal Bond Attorneys and Underwriters. Lew retired in 2008 and after a few years off he went back to work for a short time working as the Business Manager for the law firm of Gleason, Dunn, Walsh and O'Shea. Although he had a successful professional career, he was always sensitive to how he treated people. He truly believed that everyone he came in contact with should be given the respect that they deserved. At work he told co-workers that everyone can't bat fourth in the lineup but it was the entire team that would get the job done. Lew was an avid NY Yankees and NY Giants Fan who watched all the games with his wife and son. Lew was very active with all of his son's activities especially when Paul was young. Lew helped out with Jr Plainsman Football, Clifton Park Baseball, Clifton Park Recreational Basketball and St Mary's CYO Basketball. He is survived by his wife of 49 years who was the love of his life and best friend Cindy (Novak) DeSalvatore, he married Cindy on June 2, 1974; his loyal and dedicated son Paul DeSalvatore who was always by his side and who he was very proud of his musical accomplishments; his sister Linda DeCarlo; his sister-in-law, Christine (Novak) Campbell; nephews Kevin Campbell (Angela), Jeffrey DeCarlo (Angie) and Steven Campbell (Brittney): his second family Joe Pecora Sr. (predeceased): Sandy (Pecora) Timberlake; Barbara (Jeff) Arbour and Joe Pecora Jr (Chris); his best friend that goes all the way back to Little League, Paul DeLuca. He also leaves behind his son's dog, Vado, who he adored. The family would like to thank Dr Waters and the staff of A3 Saratoga Hospital for their kindness and support.
