Obituary of Doris M. Quick

Dr. Doris "Dottie" Quick, 89, of Saratoga Springs, passed away October 12, 2023, at home surrounded by her immediate family. She was born in Plattsburgh, New York to the late Hugh & Doris Mehan. She was a 1951 graduate of Milne High School in Albany. Dottie then attended Albany State Teachers College, which later became the University at Albany, where she earned her Bachelor's, Master's, and Doctoral degrees. She was a trailblazer in this regard given a small percentage of women were college-educated in those days. Dottie spent her professional career working in the Schenectady and Burnt Hills school districts as a teacher, beloved by many of her students. She also worked at Union College in the MAT (Master of Arts in Teaching) department. In retirement, she worked part-time for the International Center for Leadership in Education. Dottie spent many summers working at Camp Chingachgook on beautiful Lake George. She met the love of her life during her undergraduate studies; they were married on June 30, 1956. Dottie was a dedicated mother, spending as much time as possible with her children at their summer home on Lake George. She had an adoration for the Adirondack Park, where she enjoyed skiing, sailing & hiking. Dottie was also fond of traveling, taking trips all over the world upon retirement. Dottie is survived by her brother Hugh "Bud" Mehan (Margaret), son Stephen (Colleen); grandchildren William (Alaina) & Kathryn Colville, and Gavin Quick; as well as great-grandchildren Colton, Miles & Layla Colville. She was predeceased by her husband Custer Quick and daughter Jennifer Colville. Calling hours will be Saturday, October 21, from 2-5pm at Daly's Funeral Home, 242 McClellan St, Schenectady. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family. Memorial donations can be made to YMCA Camp Chingachgook to support scholarships for youth attending summer camp programs.
