Obituary of Helen M. Marie

Please share a memory of Helen to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Helen Marie was born in Schenectady, NY on February 14, 1955 and died peacefully at Kingsway Community on October 17, 2023. She was the daughter of Elizabeth Brownell Marie and Peter Marie, both of whom predeceased her. Her brother (Peter Jr.) died as an infant. She lived her life in Glenville, NY in the home where her parents raised her. Peg attended Burnt Hills High School and continued to serve as a Board Member of her Reunion Committee. During High School, Peg spent every summer at Camp Jeanne d'Arc on Chateaugay Lake in the Adirondacks where she made many lifelong friends and created treasured memories. Recently, Peg attended the 100-year anniversary celebration of the Camp and reconnected with many friends. After graduating from high school, Peg worked in the bakery department of Price Chopper. She was a dedicated and highly valued employee and increased her circle of friends through work. For most of her adult life, Peg had a trailer home at Frosty Acres Campground, Schenectady, where she hosted annual family reunions that now provide cherished memories for her survivors. Peg was a lifelong New York Yankees fan. She loved going to New York City with her dad and her Uncle Johnny to watch the Yankees play. After every trip, she regaled friends and family with stories from her trips. Peg enjoyed spending time with her family (aunts, uncles, and cousins), especially to celebrate holidays. She always brought delicious dishes, especially her renowned mashed potatoes and her famous, festive desserts. Peg's other interests included bird watching, making beautiful crafts that she gave to family and friends and being a proud Labrador dog owner. Her many dogs over the years became members of her family. Peg is survived by cousins Sandy Lombardi, Donna Snead, Alan Marie (Joyce), Mark Marie (Patti), Penny Kris-Etherton (Terry), Sheila Elfenbein, Ramona Swartz (Brad), Mary Jane Wheeler (Ray) and Diana Fox, and 17 second cousins. Peggy's cousins and friends thank the Kingsway Community staff for the exceptional care they provided during her final days. Peggy will be remembered as a beloved family member and highly valued friend. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, October 22, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Daly Funeral Home, 242 McClellan St., Schenectady. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at Church of the Immaculate Conception, Glenville, on October 23, at 10 a.m., followed by burial in Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Schenectady.
