Obituary of Jane A. Mahoney

Jane Agnes (Jewett) Mahoney passed away peacefully at the age of 96. She was born in Schenectady on August 31, 1927 and was a life-long resident. The daughter of Charles W. Jewett, Sr. & Eva Weller Jewett. Jane graduated from the former Mont Pleasant High School in1945. Jane worked as a cashier at the Plaza Theater, then many years as a NY Telephone service representative. She was a communicant of St. Kateri Tekakwitha Parish, Schenectady and Blessed Sacrament Church in Bolton Landing, NY. She also served as a Eucharist Minister and lector at both parishes. She served as a volunteer for the St. Clare's Hospital Auxiliary and The Ladies of Charity, Schenectady. Jane was an avid reader of all genres and devoured books at a feverish rate. She had a contagious smile, love for all people and a deep belief in God. Jane was predeceased by her husband, Richard C. Mahoney, her daughter, Mary P. Mahoney, her brothers Charles W. Jewett, Jr. and John L. Jewett. She is survived by her son Robert (Bob) Mahoney (Sheree Komp), grandchildren Brendan, Dallis and Sterling Mahoney, as well as many wonderful nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Hospice along with the incredible staff at the Union Station wing, first floor at Glendale Nursing Home. Their dedication and consideration of dignity at Glendale was comforting for our family. Also, the family is so grateful to Jane's home health care aides, for over 2 years of wonderful care. Jane was very generous and although she donated to many charities, her favorite was The City Mission in Schenectady. The Mahoney family hopes donations can be made there in her name. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, 10:00 am at St. Kateri Tekakwitha Church, Union St. (formerly St. Helen's), Niskayuna. Interment will be in Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Niskayuna.
