McGarry, Elizabeth “Betty”
Niskayuna - Elizabeth “Betty” McGarry, 89, passed away Wednesday March 27, 2024 at her home of more than 40 years in Niskayuna.
Betty was born in Albany the daughter of the late John W. and Margaret (McGlarry) McGarry, Sr. As a young woman she lived in Manhattan working for the New York Telephone Co.,but eventually moved back to the capital district and settled in Niskayuna. She was a long time communicant of St. Helen’s Church (now St. kateri Tekakwitha) and had traveled the world, including places like Australia, Aruba and Alaska. In addition to her family, her pet poodles were central to Betty’s life. She was the Senior Trainer of the Schenectady Dog Training Club and had shared her life with her dogs.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her canine companions: Koko, McGee, Brooke and Pearl and her siblings Catherine McGarry and John P. McGarry.
Betty is survived by her nieces Katina Lanese and Lori McGarry, nephews Steve Czech and John W. McGarry, great-nieces Olivia and Isabella Lanese and a host of friends.
Calling hours will be Monday 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Daly Funeral Home, 242 McClellan St., Schenectady. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 9:00 am at St. Kateri Tekakwitha (formerly St. Helen’s) 1803 Union St., Niskayuna. Interment will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery, Colonie.
