I have lived next door to Bill and Mary for the last 41 years. There have been so many wonderful, heartfelt, and humorous moments. There is one that stands out among all of them.
My mom had died in Ohio. My family was driving back from the service in January. Naturally the thruway was closed around Buffalo due to a storm. So we had to come the long way through PA. There were two little children in the car - 4 1/2 and 1 1/2. Instead of the normal 7 hour drive, it was 10.
As we pulled into our driveway at 10:30 at night, out comes Bill with a grocery bag in his hands. He had gotten eggs, juice, milk, cereal, and bread for us in case there was no food in the house for the kids.
To me this is the epitome of Bill Varno. Rest in Peace dear friend. You deserve it.
