Schenectady - Janet L. Johnson passed away peacefully on July 12, 2024. Janet was born September 17, 1931, in Plattsburgh, NY to the late Redman and Genevieve Holland. She was a graduate of the St. John Academy and Champlain Valley Nursing School of Plattsburgh. After moving to Schenectady, she met her future husband. Kenneth A. Johnson and they were married on April 16, 1955. She worked at St. Claire's Hospital until she interrupted her career to raise their four (4) children. In 1975, she accepted the Nursing position at Niskayuna High School until her retirement in 1995.
Janet valued time with family and friends, enjoyed playing golf, attending sporting events, taking walks thru Central Park and was an avid bridge player. She appreciated her vacations, especially to Galway Lake, Ocean City, NJ, Cape Cod, MA and the Catskill Resorts. Janet and Ken also took many cruises and trips overseas together with friends and colleagues. Janet was predeceased by her husband of 59 years, daughter Cheryl Della Sala and brothers Robert, Russel, and Jerry.
Up until the end, Janet maintained her kindness, humor, compassion, love of family, friends and pride of her Irish heritage. She was dedicated to helping others and never stopped donating time to causes such as the Sunnyview Gift Shop and the St. Clair's Boutique Shop.
She is survived by her sibling Kathleen Fistler of Mansfield, OH, her devoted children Kenneth S. Johnson (LeAnn) of Severna Park, MD; Laurè Leblanc (Jeff) of East Greenwich, RI; D. Jerome Johnson (Nancy) of Macungie, PA; and son-in-law Thomas Della Sala of Schenectady, NY; her nine beloved grandchildren; Adam and Kaytrin (Ziemann) Della Sala; Mark & Stephen Johnson, Canaan & Skylar Leblanc, Alex, Ben & Kelsey (Reif) Johnson; 11 treasured great-grandchildren, plus many loving nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral service will be held Friday, 12 Noon at Daly Funeral Home. An hour of visitation will precede the service from 11-12 p.m. Interment, Vale Cemetery.
