Obituary of Peter Frosch

Dr. Peter Frosch passed away at home on May 15, 2011 surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Summit, New Jersey, to the late Ruth and Carl Frosch. Dr. Frosch graduated from Union College and went on to attend the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena as a Woodrow Wilson Fellow. He graduated with a doctorate in the field of physical chemistry. His post doctoral work was done at the University of Chicago where he met his future wife, Pearl Marie Orihel. He was a chemistry professor at the University of California, Berkley, and also at Union College. His areas of research included molecular spectroscopy and electron paramagnetic resonance. Dr. Frosch then went to R.P.I. as a visiting professor and retired from the Voorhees Computing Center at R.P.I as a consultant. He was a humble man who was a friend, teacher, and protector of his family. His knowledge and memory were astonishing. He was truly a walking encyclopedia. He greatly enjoyed gardening in his retirement, taking great pleasure in planting hundreds of daffodil and tulip bulbs. His garden also contained 48 varieties of vegetables. Dr. Frosch is survived by his loving wife, Pearl Marie; his loving daughter, Maria Orihel Frosch Lanterman; his much loved son-in-law, Grant Douglass Lanterman; and his soon-to-be born grandson, Peter Frosch Lanterman. He is also survived by his sister, Mary Ann Topping of Belfast, Maine; niece, Drew Sullivan of Belfast, Maine; and nephew, Ret Topping of Elkins, West Virginia. Private funeral services will be held with interment in Most Holy Redeemer Mausoleum, Niskayuna.
