Anita L. Pierce passed away peacefully at home on August 27, 2024 at the age of 92. She was born on November 13, 1931 in Schenectady, NY to Henry and Rosalene Buerker. She was predeceased by her husband Ralph, her brother Ernest Buerker, and her sister Gloria Brand. She is survived by and was a loving mother to her children: Kathy Mausert (Rick), Janet Edmonds (Don), Diana Tremblay (John) and Brian Pierce (Gail). She was also blessed to have 8 grandchildren: Kristen Marrano (Jimmy), Lauren Glindmyer (Ken), Megan Mausert, Jessica Edmonds, Michael Edmonds (Jessica), Michelle Tremblay, Matthew Pierce and Abbey Pierce, as well as 5 great grandchildren: Alexandra Glindmyer, Madelyn Glindmyer, Charlotte Edmonds, Jack Edmonds and James "JJ" Marrano. She was a 1949 graduate of Nott Terrace High School in Schenectady. She started working part-time at Schenectady Savings Bank and after graduation worked full-time where she met her beloved husband, Ralph, whom she married in 1956. She was a longtime member of the former St. Helen's Church in Schenectady. She enjoyed being a part of their choir, a Eurcharistic minister, collection counter, lector and bringing communion to the homebound. She also enjoyed playing volleyball in the gym with the Monday night crowd and the bridge group on Sunday afternoons. Anita was very physically and socially active throughout her life. In her youth, she was involved in the Turnverein German Hall as well as playing violin and piano. Later in life she was in a bowling league, on a softball team, played bocce, did line dancing and was part of the Four Seasons Walking Group. Some of her favorite activities into her late 80's were volleyball, pickleball, being a Tai Chi instructor and rowing her boat every morning on the Hudson River at her much-loved camp. She also participated in the St. Clare's Follies, the Schenectady Theater for Children, volunteered at St. Clare's/Ellis Hospital and helped to coordinate the Nott Terrace High School reunions. Anita was very family oriented. Her happiest times were riding bikes, playing cards, eating ice cream, doing puzzles, watching Jeopardy, going miniature golfing, attending her grandchildrens' sporting events, concerts and graduations. She also loved traveling on vacation with her family. Arrangements by Daly Funeral Home, 242 McClellan St., Schenectady. Calling hours will be Thursday, September 5th from 5-7pm. A funeral mass will be held on Friday, September 6th at 9am at St. Kateri Tekakwitha Catholic Church, 1803 Union St., Schenectady.
