Please share a memory of Alyce to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Alyce "Lisa" Whitehead, 98, of Niskayuna, died peacefully at home with loving family and friends by her side.
Lisa was born in Attleboro, Massachusetts, to Giovanno and Loretta (DiBrango) DeLitta on January 27, 1926. She graduated from the Massachusetts General Hospital School of Nursing in February 1947. Lisa married Andrew D. Whitehead on December 27th, 1947, and spent many years as a proud Navy wife as she supported her husband throughout his career as a Naval officer with the nuclear submarine fleet. Lisa and Andywere married for 63 years until his death in 2010.
Lisa worked for many years at the Bellevue Women's Hospital as a labor and delivery nurse and took great joy in bringing new children into the world. Her Catholic faith guided her throughout her life; she was a dedicated parishioner and Faith Formation teacher at St. Paul the Apostle Church and volunteered for many years at the Dominican Retreat & Conference Center. Lisa loved traveling and especially enjoyed her time in Italy, Ireland and Israel, but her favorite place of all was at the beach on Cape Cod. Closer to home she spent her time crocheting, baking, creating beautiful calligraphy, solving crossword puzzles, reading mystery novels, antiquing, and spending time with friends and family.
Lisa is survived by her daughters, Meredith Black and Nancy Smith (Jeffrey)of Niskayuna, New York; grandchildren Erica Black (Rich "Charlie" Krissel) of Malta, New York, Joanna Corey (Preston) of Muncie, Indiana, and Thomas Smith of Brooklyn, New York; and great grandsons Tyler and Liam Robertson of Muncie, Indiana. She was predeceased by her sister, Ann DeLitta.
The family would like to give special thanks to Lisa's dedicated caregivers including Chandrama, Katrina, Mala, Bibi, and Joy. They would also like to thank the St. Peter's Palliative Care team and The Community Hospice for their wonderful care.
The family will receive visitors at the Daly Funeral Home in Schenectady, New York, on Friday, October 25th from 3:00 pm until 6:00 pm, concluding with a Vigil Service. Interment will be at a later date at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Stillwater, New York. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Community Hospice, 310 S.
