Mrs. Stephen B. Fuerst (Martha), 96, of Regent Street in Niskayuna, passed away peacefully on July 7, 2011, at her home. She was born Martha Sophie Augusta Schroeder in Hannover, Germany, on January 16, 1915, the daughter of the late Ernst and Marie Schroeder. She emigrated to the U.S. in 1927 with her parents and two brothers, William Schroeder and the late Carl Schroeder. Martha Fuerst dedicated her life to her husband and children, friends and family. She was a homemaker. She was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, the late Stephen B. Fuerst. In her early years, Martha and her husband were accomplished gymnasts and members of the Schenectady Turn- Verein. Martha Fuerst was fortunate to spend many years wintering in Florida with her husband. She was a member of the Mohawk Golf Club for the past 56 years. Also, she was a member of the Mohawk Golf Club senior gourmet dinner group, and in her early years was an avid golfer and enjoyed golfing in the ladies 9-hole golf league. Survivors include twin sons, Karl W. Fuerst of Ballston Lake, NY, Robert A. Fuerst (Patricia) of Scotia, NY; a daughter, Coleen Fuerst Dreher (James) of Durham, NH; a brother, William E. Schroeder (Sally) of Hallandale Beach, FL; five grandchildren, Stephen K. Fuerst (Michelle), Paul C. Fuerst (Shauna), Donald A. Fuerst (Karla), Richard A. Fuerst, and Kristin Fuerst Urban (Harold); and several great-grandchildren. Funeral service Tuesday, 11 a.m. at the Daly Funeral home, Inc., 242 McClellan St., Schenectady. Calling hours Monday evening, 6 to 8 at the funeral home. Interment Park View Cemetery, Schenectady. Mrs. Fuerst's family is grateful to the home health aides who have provided such loving care to Martha for the past several years, especially Chandrama Armoogan.
