Genevieve Freer Niskayuna - Genevieve Freer, a Schenectady native and lifelong area resident, passed away peacefully Saturday November 30, 2024 at the age of 107. A life lived with love and grace. Her energy, humor and enduring positivity left an indelible mark on everyone fortunate enough to know her.

Genevieve was born on October 3, 1917, 1 of 7 children to the late Joseph and Victoria (Urban) Ruminiecki. Her early years were filled with hard work and devotion taking a job with GE, a career that would span 50 years, retiring at the age of 70. Through her time at GE, she became known for her humor, dedication and cheerful disposition.

In her retirement she remained active in the community, volunteering at the Salvation Army and the Niskayuna Senior Center where she received a Community Award for her efforts. She was also a long time member of Our Lady of Fatima Church.

At the age of 30 she married Clayton "Clayt" Wellington and the two were happily wed until his untimely passing in 1972, after 19 years of marriage.

In addition to Clayt, she was predeceased by her nephew Jack VanKamerik.

Genevieve's passing leaves a void in the hearts of her family and her legacy of love and resilience will live on in all who knew her. She is survived by her nieces Linda Baquero, Sharon Lawrence and Alice Zalucki, dear friend and companion Donna Turowski and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

Calling hours will be Tuesday 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Daly Funeral Home, 242 McClellan St., Schenectady. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday 11:00 a.m. at St. Kateri Tekakwitha Church (formerly Our Lady of Fatima Church) 2216 Rosa Rd., Niskayuna. Interment will be in Park View Cemetery, Schenectady.
