Schenectady - Doreen (Poitras) Hennessey 91, beloved wife of the late Stephen Hennessey passed away Sunday December 29, 2024 from chronic lymphatic lymphoma (CLL). She was born August 28th, 1933 to Marguerite (Perron) Poitras and Roland Poitras in Salem, Massachusetts.

She was the loving and caring mother of her three children;

The late Stephen M Hennessey of Niskayuna, Brenda Lewis of Madison Ct, her husband Martin Lewis and their two children Kaylee and Jonah Lewis and the late James Hennessey of Niskayuna.

Doreen achieved many accomplishments in her life. She was a graduate of Salem High School, where she was a cheerleader and straight A student. Doreen went to college late in life, attending Schenectady Community College (BA) and SUNY Albany, earning a masters degree in social work and counseling.

She was a school counselor for the Lansingburgh school district for many years.

Doreen was an active woman with many interests and enjoyed singing, dancing, light opera, reading, vacationing, socializing with her friends, family, and beloved cat Prince.

Doreen had an amazing, upbeat personality and was a positive force throughout her life always finding the bright side of every situation.

Our family would love to send special wishes to Doreen's close friends, who over the later years of her life would come visit, help her maintain her fierce independence and love of conversation and life. Her life at home was enriched by many friends and neighbors who always lent a helping hand.

Arrangements: Services for Doreen's celebration of life will be held at a later date at which all friends and family will be notified.
