Obituary of Franco Ariemma

Franco Ariemma - Schenectady Franco Ariemma, 69, of Schenectady, passed away Sunday, February 19, 2012 at home. Born in Pescara, Italy on April 28, 1942, Franco was the son of the late Salvatore and Adelina Ariemma. Franco graduated from Christian Brothers Academy in Torre di Greco, Italy, with a degree in geometry. He came to the United States on June 3, 1968 and settled in Schenectady. He graduated from Union College with a degree in civil engineering. He spent over 30 enjoyable years designing bridge facilities for the state of New York. He retired in 2000 from the Geotechnical Bureau in the Department of Transportation. Upon his retirement, Franco enjoyed tending to his bountiful vegetable gardens, deep sea fishing at Cape Cod and dancing and traveling to exotic places with the love of his life for over 30 years, Dina. Survivors include his wife, Dina Zucconi Ariemma; his sister, Anna Maria Valdino; and his sisters-in-law, Mary Remancus and Rita Doodian (Louis). His nieces and nephews include Umberto and Mario Valdino, Rose Golden (Harold), Josephine Ahearn, Michele Doodian, Sandra Remancus (Brandt) and Stanley Remancus (Kelly); great-nephews and nieces, Kris (Leah), Scott (Cheryl) and Samantha (Brandon) Golden, Zachary Ahearn, Taylor and Coleman Witte, and Mantas Remancus. In addition to his parents, Franco was predeceased by his two sisters, Eva and Clorinda; and brother-in-law, Stanley. Funeral service Thursday morning, 10:15 from the Daly Funeral Home, 242 McClellan St., and 11 a.m. at St. Paul the Apostle Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Calling hours Wednesday afternoon, 5 to 7 at the funeral home. Interment, St. Joseph's Cemetery.
