Obituary of Dorothy Gilbert

North Carolina - Dorothy D. Gilbert, 84, of Hendersonville, NC, died on Thursday, December 27, 2012 at the Elizabeth House after a short illness. A native of Schenectady, NY, she was born on May 12, 1928 to the late, William Desell and Mary Murray Desell. She was also preceded in death by her two husbands, Edward Oscar Remillard who died in 1962 and Philip R. Gilbert who died in 2001; and her stepdaughter, Suzanne Card who died in 2010. Dorothy spent much of her life volunteering her time with many organizations including feeding children at the Boys and Girls Club, New Bounty and the Four Seasons Hospice Home Store. She and her husband, Philip shared a love of collecting clocks. They founded the WNC Chapter of the National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors in the early 1980s. She is survived by her four children, David P. Gilbert and his wife, Cynthia of Webster, NY, Charles W. Gilbert and his wife, Patricia A. of Pottstown, PA, Cynthia R. Boucher and her husband, John of Watertown, CT, Cheryl R. Cox and her husband, Donald of Fort Edward, NY; her eight grandchildren; her three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. A short service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday morning at the Daly Funeral Home, 242 McClellan Street, Schenectady, New York, followed by an immediate burial at Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Niskayuna.
