Obituary of Evelyn Gravell

ROTTERDAM- Evelyn Fuerst Gravell, 87, of Al Constantino Drive, passed away Wednesday morning, June 17, 2009, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law. Evelyn was born in Schenectady on June 20, 1921, the daughter of the late Emil and Matilda Fuerst. She was educated in Schenectady schools and was a graduate of Mont Pleasant High School. Evelyn devoted her life to being a homemaker. She was also a former communicant of St. Thomas Church and later Our Lady of Mt. Carmel. Evelyn and her husband owned a camp on Sacandaga, where they enjoyed 33 wonderful summers. Predeceased by her husband, Louis J. Gravell, Sr., whom she married March 31, 1943. He later died December 5, 1989. Also predeceased by her son, Louis J. Gravell, Jr, who passed away in 1964; and two brothers, Carl Fuerst and Stephen Fuerst. Surivors include her daughter, Lynne Palmer and her husband, Gerard ; two grandchildren, Jeffrey Palmer and his wife Christine, and Jacalyn Palmer, all of Rotterdam; three great grandchildren, Monet, Amanda and Cameron Palmer; a brother, Robert J. Fuerst, and a sister-in-law, Martha Fuerst, both of Schenectady; also survived by several nieces and nephews. Funeral service Saturday morning at 10 AM from the Daly Funeral Home, 242 McClellan Street, then to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, Pleasant Street, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 AM. Interment will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Kings Road. A calling hour to which relatives and friends are invited to attend will be held from 9 to 10 AM at the funeral home, prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice of Schenectady, 1411 Union Street, Schenectady, NY 12308.
