Hudson, Fla. John Vincent Helm Sr., of Hudson, Fla. formerly of Scotia, died Tuesday, August 21, 2012 after a brief illness. John was born in Washing-ton, D.C. He served in the US Navy and the US Coast Guard. He was a New York State Trooper for 28 years, retiring in 1986. He was a Third Degree Knight of the Knights of Columbus in Scotia. He owned beach rental properties in Hampton Beach, N.H. and once built an eight sided gazebo that still stands at the old residence in Scotia. He was a member of the Police Benevolent Assoc. of the New York State Troopers. John is survived by many loving family members and will be remembered as a devoted husband and father. Survivors include his wife, Norene Santone Helm; children, John Jr., Stephen, Michelle, Andrew and Matthew; siblings, Mary Frances Ludmilla, Joseph and Herbert; grandchildren, Luke, Brittany, Sarah, Katie, Tyler, Elizabeth, Hannah, Patrick, Zachary, Ian, Christopher, Miranda, Deanna and Marcus; great-grandchildren, Connor, Ashlynn, Hailey and Griffin and many nieces and nephews and a sister and brother-in-law, Lenora and Pieter. He was predeceased by a son, Joseph and his brother, Richard. Funeral service Wednesday morning 8:45 from the Daly Funeral Home, Inc., 242 McClellan St., Schenectady and 9:30 at St. Joseph's Church (First St., Scotia) where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Calling hours Tuesday afternoon 4 to 8 in the evening at the funeral home. Interment Park Cemetery, Scotia. Memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O.
