Richard Gerald "Jerry" Hubel, 82, of Sunrise Blvd., died peacefully on Monday, August 29, 2011, at Ellis Hospital. Jerry was born on August 31, 1928, and educated in Schenectady. He was the son of William and Agnes Keenan Hubel. Jerry owned his own masonry business and then joined the U.S. Postal Service, retiring as a branch manager after 28 years of service. He will always be remembered for his quick wit and his prowess with chess and sudoku. Jerry was a movie enthusiast and enjoyed Uncle Sam's dark bark chocolate. He was a kind overall "good guy" and will be greatly missed by those who knew him. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Mary Formosa Hubel. They married on February 2, 1952. Jerry is also survived by four children, Diane (Michael) Farella, Paul (Erin) Hubel, Richard (Diane) Hubel, and Teresa (Mark) D'Alessandro; devoted grandfather of Joseph, Paul and Michael Farella, Sarah (Hubel) and Gary March, Daniel and Katherine Hubel, and Christopher and Elisa D'Alessandro; sister-in-law, Frances Hubel, and many loving nieces and nephews and their families. He was predeceased by his brother, William "Bucky" Hubel. Funeral service Friday morning 11:15 from the Daly Funeral Home, Inc., 242 McClellan St., Schenectady, and 12 noon at St. Luke's Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Calling hours Thursday evening 6 to 8 at the funeral home. Interment will be at St. Joseph's Cemetery, Schenectady. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude's Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
