John Paige Jones, 88, of Rt. 20, Sloansville, formerly of Ft. Hunter Rd., died Sunday, July 4, 2010, at Bassett Hospital, Cooperstown, after a short illness. John was born in Brighton, Iowa, the son of Orison and Hazel Winifield, moved to Schenectady as a child, and attended Draper Schools. He was a very proud World War II army veteran, earning the rank of Sergant. He was a machinist at the Knolls Atomic Power Lab for 37 years, retiring in 1982. He had belonged to the American Legion. Paige, as he was called by family, moved to Sloansville to reside with his daughter, Linda. There he joined the Schoharie Gospel Fellowship Church, and his son-in-law is the pastor. John is survived by his wife of 64 years, Marie Goodness Jones; two daughters, Susan (Bud) Belcher of Skaneateles and Linda (Brent) Bushen of Sloansville; six grandchildren, Andrea, Melissa, Katelyn, Benjamin, Becky and BreAnna; four great-grandchildren; a nephew and niece. He was predeceased by two sisters, Mary Tymula and Lois Morris; and a grandson, Andrew Belcher. Funeral service, Thursday afternoon, 1 p.m. at the Daly Funeral Home, Inc., 242 McClellan St., Schenectady. A calling hour will precede the service. Interment, Memory Gardens Cemetery, Colonie. Memorial contributions may be made to Stratton Veteran Administration Hospital, 113 Holland Ave., Albany, NY 12208.
