John E. Kelly, 81, of Rotterdam, passed away Thursday evening, March 26, 2009, at Ellis Hospital following a brief illness. John was born in Schenectady on March 15, 1928, a son of the late Edward L. and Emma V. Kubes Kelly. He was educated in Schenectady and was a graduate of the former Mont Pleasant High School, class of 1946. From 1946 to 1948 John faithfully served in the United States Navy. He was employed by General Electric for ten years and subsequently worked for Schenectady International as a plumber steam fitter. In 1990 John retired from Schenectady International, after 30 years of service. He was an active member of the Rotterdam Senior Citizens and a communicant of St. Madeleine-Sophie Church. In addition to his parents, John was predeceased by two siblings, Neil Kelly and Marjorie Kelly. Survivors include his dearly beloved wife, Margaret Klein Kelly, whom he married February 3, 1951; two loving daughters, Barbara Daley and her husband, Timothy of West Suffield, CT, and Patricia "Tricia" Kowalczyk and her husband, Andrew of Atlanta, GA; five adored grandchildren, Caitlin Daley, Gregory Daley, Dean Daley, JP Daley and Paul Kowalczyk; two brothers, Robert Kelly and his wife, Christine of Oldsmar, FL., and Richard Kelly of West Valley, Utah; one sister-in-law, Dolores Kelly of Hyde Park, NY; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be held Tuesday morning at 9:15 a.m. from the Daly Funeral Home, 242 McClellan Street, Schenectady, then to St. Madeleine-Sophie Church, Carman Road, Guilderland, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Entombment will follow in Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery Mausoleum, Niskayuna. Calling hours to which relatives and friends are invited to attend will be held Monday evening from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Daly Funeral Home.
